Menus

File

  • Open workspace file (.zip)…: Opens a workspace from a stored .zip file. That is, open a configuration of workspace components (networks, worlds, plots, etc.), couplings, and update actions. Keyboard shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl-O.

  • Save workspace: Save the current workspace as a .zip file. All components, couplings, and update actions are saved. Keyboard shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl-S.

  • Save workspace as…: Save the current workspace and specify a name for the file.

  • Clear desktop: Remove all components and couplings from current workspace, and remove any additional windows from the desktop. Keyboard shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl-K.

  • Edit update sequence…: Open the Edit Update Sequence dialog; see update.

  • Workspace preferences…: Open workspace preferences dialog.

  • Network preferences…: Set default properties that apply to all networks in the Simbrain workspace.

  • Reset onboarding windows: All onboarding windows will be reset to appear again.

  • Quit Simbrain: Exit the application. Keyboard shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl-Q.

View

  • Bottom dock: Show/hide bottom panels including Components, Terminal, and Performance tabs. See Property Tabs for details.

  • Show/hide info panel: Toggle visibility of info panel. This panel shows documentation and help content for various features. This option is only enabled when there is content to display.

  • Resize windows: Resize all windows on screen so they fit on the current desktop. Helpful when windows get lost offscreen, or when opening a workspace created on a larger monitor than the one you are using.

  • Gather windows: Places all desktop windows in the upper left corner of the desktop and resizes them. Helpful when windows get lost offscreen, or when opening a workspace created on a larger monitor than the one you are using.

Insert

  • Network: Insert a new Network component into the workspace. Keyboard shortcut: Cmd/Ctrl-N.

  • New plot > Bar Chart: Insert a new Bar Chart.

  • New plot > Histogram: Insert a new Histogram.

  • New plot > Pie Chart: Insert a new Pie Chart.

  • New plot > Pixel Plot: Insert a new Pixel Plot.

  • New plot > Projection Plot: Insert a new Projection Plot.

  • New plot > Raster Plot: Insert a new Raster Plot.

  • New plot > Time Series: Insert a new Time Series.

  • New world > Data World: Insert a new Data World.

  • New world > Odor World: Insert a new OdorWorld.

  • New world > Image World: Insert a new Image World.

  • New world > Text World: Insert a new Text World.

  • Document viewer: Insert a new Document Viewer.

  • Console: Insert a new Simbrain Console.

Simulations

The Simulations menu is automatically populated with available simulations from the simulation framework. These are organized simulations that demonstrate various neural network concepts and can be invoked by selecting them from the menu. See simulations for more information on creating and using simulations.

Couplings

  • Open coupling manager…: Open Coupling Manager to create and manage couplings between components.

  • Open coupling list…: Open Coupling List to view all current couplings in the workspace.

Help

  • Documentation: Open the main documentation page at docs.simbrain.net.

  • Quick start: Open the Quick Start page with information about getting started with Simbrain.

  • Keyboard shortcuts: Open the Keyboard Shortcuts page with a comprehensive reference of all keyboard shortcuts organized by component.

  • Show/hide info panel: Toggle visibility of the info panel. Same as the View menu option.

  • Credits: Open the Simbrain credits page.

  • About Simbrain (non-macOS only): Display version and build information. On macOS, use the native About menu in the application menu.
